Hublot Watch 3D Render Case Study | Luxury Product Visualisation
Project Overview
This project is a cinematic Hublot watch 3D render and product visualisation study inspired by the Hublot Big Bang. The goal was to explore high-end product rendering through lighting, materials, surface detail, and controlled motion.
The final deliverables include high-resolution still renders, a product reveal animation, and an exploded view sequence designed to highlight the engineering and premium design of the watch.
The Challenge
The main challenge in this luxury watch 3D render was balancing realism and clarity.
Key challenges included:
• Making different materials work together realistically, including brushed metal, polished surfaces, and matte finishes
• Preserving micro detail while avoiding visual noise in the final render
• Designing motion that feels calm and premium rather than dramatic
• Presenting the mechanical complexity clearly in the exploded view animation
Process Part A: Inspiration and References
- The visual direction focused on a premium and restrained aesthetic, similar to high-end luxury watch campaigns.
- Instead of dramatic effects, the goal was controlled lighting and subtle reflections.
- Reference images with clean highlights and soft shadows were used to guide the look development and match how brushed metal surfaces react to light.
Process Part B: Camera angles
Process Part B: Camera angles
I tested 6 angles quickly, then picked the 3 strongest.
I chose the hero angle because it shows the most product information in one shot.
Process Part C: Materials
- I wanted a premium, restrained look. Not dramatic effects.
- I chose references with clean highlights and controlled shadows.
- These references helped me match how brushed metal catches light.
Titanium or brushed metal reference
Brushed metal behaves very differently from polished metal. Instead of mirror reflections, it contains microscopic directional lines that stretch reflections and create a soft highlight streak.
To recreate this effect in the watch 3D render, anisotropic shading was used to control reflection direction, while subtle bump maps added micro surface detail without making the material look scratched or noisy.
Blender material setup
- I used anisotropic shading to make reflections stretch in one direction.
- I added subtle bump so it feels real, but not scratched.
- I broke up roughness slightly so it doesn’t look like perfect plastic.
Process Part D: Lighting and look development
Lighting plays a crucial role in product visualization and luxury watch rendering.
The lighting setup includes:
A key light to define the main shape and surface reflections
A rim light to separate the watch from the background
Soft gradient lighting to reveal curvature and small design details
Process Part E: Motion choices
The animation was designed to feel slow, confident, and precise. Luxury brands typically avoid chaotic motion, so the product reveal uses controlled camera movement and minimal easing.
Linear motion curves were used to maintain consistency and reinforce the premium feel of the watch animation.
Solution (final outputs)
Macro details for premium perception.
Outcome
These 3D product renders and animations can support a wide range of marketing and advertising applications:
Website hero sections
Product launch videos
Social media content
PDP product visuals
Editorial and campaign imagery
3D Video
Reflection
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was developing the materials, particularly the brushed titanium and brushed steel finishes.
Achieving a realistic premium look required careful control of reflections and surface detail. Lighting experiments were equally important, helping highlight the key design features while maintaining a clean visual presentation.
Camera angles were also tested extensively to emphasize the engineering and craftsmanship of the watch.
For future iterations, the animation pacing could be refined further, including additional camera movement and speed variations while preserving the calm luxury aesthetic.
